We are Andaman Ceramics
A home studio born from our love for nature, the Andaman Sea and all its magnificent creatures, big and small
Hi there,
We are Salla and Prasert (Bee), nice to meet you! We are the couple behind Andaman Ceramics.
We have a background in nature tourism industry, hotel management and boating in Southern Thailand, with the Andaman Sea playing a pivotal role in our lives. Over the years it has been both our home and a source of income, especially to Bee who is an experienced sea captain.
Currently it’s also an endless source of inspiration in our work with clay. The shores of the Andaman and are a place where we feel most connected to nature, and simply put; at home. Salla, as a Finn, draws a lot of inspiration also from the intriguing stories and breathtaking illustrations of Tove Jansson, the creator of the Moomins.
You are most welcome to follow us along in both our pottery journey and for glimpses of the island life here!

Our studio
We started building up our home studio in the beginning of 2024 as we were in a situation in our lives where we could take the time to explore our creative sides and fully immerse ourselves in the world of clay.
It involved a lot of experimenting, making plaster molds, reusing or repurposing existing items and material as pottery tools and storage facilities. Soon we purchased our pottery wheel.
Later on we also bought our own kiln as we found it challenging to find easily accessible kiln rental without needing to wait for several weeks for the ready pieces. To be honest, we also lost quite a few unfired pieces at their bone dry stage, when delivering them across the island on our Vespa!
It makes us very happy that nowadays we are able to help fellow potters with kiln rental in Chalong and have also listed our kiln at Kiln Share as the first listing in Southern Thailand.
Our ceramics
We make both functional and art pieces from scratch in either single one-off items or very small batches, ensuring that each and every item is completely unique and one-of-a-kind.
Our inspiration is drawn from the nature of our beautiful home island, and as the name of the brand suggests, the Andaman Sea is one of the key sources of inspiration in our art.
We have grown a beautiful (albeit a bit wild) garden around our home studio, and often experiment with various kinds of botanical imprinting with the lush tropical greenery.

Process
All shell and underwater motifs and decorations in our pieces are either completely hand-sculpted or made combining hand sculpting and our hand-crafted plaster molds which we have cast using real seashells. Therefore, each clay shell has its exceptional and inimitable natural characteristics.
The plaster casting or clay mold making doesn’t break or harm the shells, and they can be returned back to where they came from after properly cleaned.
Although we don’t collect shells to keep in our collection, we do love beach-combing and often do beach-cleanups during our picnics.
We also love reusing sea glass in our ceramic pieces by melting it in the glaze firing. It creates a completely unique crackle underneath, while the surface remains smooth to touch.
