What to do in Phuket when it rains?

Funnily, the title of this post is exactly what our customers, a couple holidaying in Phuket all the way from the Caribbean typed on ChatGPT before contacting us to book a ceramic workshop recently. Although AI may not be very praised in general in the world of art (rightfully so), we were very grateful that it led this couple to spend a day immersing their hands in clay at our home studio!

Our cozy home studio surrounded by our lush garden. A perfect activity, be it rain or shine 🙂

The South-West monsoon is a seasonal wind pattern here in South Asia, and in Phuket it generally lasts roughly from June to November. When the monsoon kicks in, it brings those much needed tropical rains that the earth has been craving for throughout the months of dry season. Phuketians often tend to refer to this wetter season as “Green Season” as it truly brings the island’s lush greenery alive, as it does our garden surrounding the studio. It’s not all rain though, and Phuket is rather fortunate compared to Ranong province for example, and has quite a few sunny days every now and then.

Ya Nui beach on a stormy monsoon day in Phuket

Although you can probably tell by our description that we really enjoy this season, it can be somewhat challenging to find things to do if you are in Phuket on a holiday.

Here are some of our favorites: arts and crafts workshops, rainy day lingering in coffee shops (Phuket is full of yummy coffee options!), a movie at one of the cinemas, and storm spotting on the beach. Yes, we love being on the beach on a rainy day, looking out to the Andaman Sea with dramatic clouds and dark and gloomy horizon. If you want to play it safe, head to Ya Nui beach (South-West of Phuket) as there are restaurants nearby, where you can stay safe and dry in case of a sudden torrential rain. This is also when the beaches in Phuket are generally less crowded and more in their natural state.

Here are some of our suggestions for a lovely local activity

Enjoy your rainy day creative activity!

Last but not least, a ceramic workshop at Andaman Ceramics, as ChatGPT kindly pointed out to our lovely guests, is also a great way to spend a rainy day in Phuket!

All of our workshops are private, providing a calm and inspiring space just for you and your friends or family. If you are visiting Phuket for a short time, and will not be here to pick up your ceramic pieces once they are finished (this usually takes 2-3 weeks), we are happy to quote a shipping either domestically or internationally.

We have added photos below of some of the finished workshop pieces for your reference and inspiration.
